Robert Sawyer is a partner at Foley Hoag LLP whose practice focuses on investment advisers and private investment funds, including hedge funds, private equity and venture capital funds, and small business investment companies. He assists advisers with a range of regulatory compliance matters, including formulation of policies and procedures tailored to their business, advice and assistance with respect to current regulatory developments and compliance with registration and reporting requirements.

Robert has significant experience in formation and structuring of domestic and offshore private fund vehicles and separate account mandates, as well as associated management vehicles. His financial counsel further includes advising investment funds and other investors in various types of financing transactions, including private equity, venture capital and venture debt investments and mezzanine financing transactions. In general corporate matters, Robert offers guidance to a range of private companies, from start-up to later stage businesses, in connection with corporate structuring, capital raising and other ongoing business and legal issues.

Robert is a frequent contributor to Foley Hoag Client Alerts on pertinent SEC matters, regulations and guidelines. He is an active member of the Boston Bar Association. Robert earned his J.D. (magna cum laude) from Boston University School of Law and his B.A. from University of Rochester.
